Associate Producer

Duration: July 2017 – October 2017
Production: Prayers to Broken Stone
Key Production Dates: Melbourne Fringe Festival 2017

Boutique Theatre is seeking an associate producer for its Melbourne Fringe Festival production of Prayers to Broken Stone.

As an Associate Producer for Boutique Theatre you will be responsible for assisting the Producer on budgeting, scheduling work, and coordinating the various production departments of the production you have been contracted for.

Main responsibilities include the following:

  • Budgeting
  • Production meetings
  • Scheduling rehearsals and performances
  • Setting the rehearsal venue
  • First call
  • Rehearsal process and preparation
  • Financial accounting of the show’s expenses and revenues

We are interested in seeing people who have a passion for theatre, producing and looking to gain experience. Ideally we are looking for a candidate that is able to take on the Producer role for a future production.

Stage Manager

Duration: Commence Immediately – 31 May 2017
Production: The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls
Key Production Dates: 17th May – 28th May 2017

Boutique Theatre is seeking a Stage Manager for its May production of The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls – a gorgeous and twisted horror-fantasy about a young girl who visits Russia to get in touch with her ancestry.

As a Stage Manager for Boutique Theatre you will be responsible for providing practical and organizational support to the director, actors, designers, stage crew and technicians throughout the production process. You will also act as the director’s representative during performances, making sure that the production runs smoothly.

You would have several key responsibilities and tasks to perform in each phase of a production, including:

  • Assisting the Producer/Associate Producer in scheduling rehearsals.
  • Attend production team meetings.
  • Ensures that Boutique Theatre OH&S policy and procedures are implemented throughout the rehearsal and production stages.
  • Alongside the Producer/Associate Producer and Director complete and implement procedures identified as per the Risk Management Policy & Procedures.

During Rehearsal

  • Be the first point of contact for the cast.
  • Communicates and facilitates the rehearsal schedule and makes sure everyone involved is notified of rehearsal times, meetings, costume/wig fittings and coaching sessions.
  • Managing an effective and efficient rehearsal.
  • Mark out the dimensions of the set on the floor of the rehearsal venue.
  • Make sure rehearsal props and furnishings are available for the actors to use in rehearsal and performance.
  • Attend all rehearsals.
  • Communicating the director’s wishes to designers and craftspeople and notify them of changes made in rehearsal.
  • Be responsible for completing rehearsal reports, rehearsal tracking (with scene breakdowns) and scene shift plot spreadsheet.

During Production

  • Be first point of contact for cast and crew.
  • Be responsible for the calling and overseeing the show
  • Coordinating the work of the stage crew
  • May be required to operate the lighting and/or sound desk.
  • Ensure the venue is kept safe and pre set before each performance

Lighting Designer

Duration: Commence Immediately – 31 May 2017
Production: The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls
Key Production Dates: 17th May – 28th May 2017

As a Lighting Designer for Boutique Theatre you will be responsible for working with the director and production team to create a lighting design within a set budget and that compliments all aspects of the piece.

Lighting Designers have several key responsibilities and tasks to perform in each phase of a production, including:

  • attending several rehearsals to get a feel for the piece
  • communicating and designing in conjunction with the director and other creatives
  • rigging and de-rigging at bump in and bump out
  • programming lighting cues
  • ensure that the lighting operator has an adequate handover and understands how to op the show

Note: whilst it is not mandatory that you operate the show after designing it, if you would like to operate as well as design, that is certainly possible.
